Mental health cafe scoops NHS award

A charity run café which aims to tackle mental health stigma in Blackpool has won a prestigious NHS award barely ten months since its doors opened.

Sparky’s, the pioneering social café run by Richmond Fellowship, the national charity making mental health recovery reality, took top prize for the NHS in the North West Excellence in Supply Awards 2015.

The award comes thanks to Sparky’s work in tackling mental health stigma and providing opportunities for people living with mental health problems to gain the confidence and skills to return to work through volunteering and apprenticeships.

Recovery Focus is a new national group of charities providing a range of mental health and substance misuse support services across England. Our growth has been iterative and collaborative, and is ongoing, with a vision to create a group of like-minded organisations who add value to each other and to the people who use our services.

Richmond Fellowship has today joined Recovery Focus, a new national group of charities bringing together organisations with strong individual services, innovative approaches, flexible local presence and a wide range of expertise from around England.

The new group boasts a track record of more than 200 years of developing and running personalised services that work with people with mental health, substance misuse and other complex needs to achieve their ambitions.

Richmond Fellowship proves the voluntary sector can provide effective alternative place of safety for people in mental health crisis

Richmond Fellowship’s pilot scheme to trial an alternative ‘place of safety’ to police custody for individuals in mental distress has been hailed a success by an independent evaluation.

Reducing the use of custody cells for vulnerable people in a mental health crisis detained under section 136 of the Mental Health Act is one of the Government’s key priorities.

Richmond Fellowship has once again successfully retained its Matrix Standard accreditation. The assessor described our teams as ‘brilliant’ and was impressed by their level of passion and commitment to the people we support.

The Matrix Standard is a unique quality standard for organisations to assess and measure their advice and support services, which ultimately supports individuals in their choice of career, learning, work and life goals. We provide employment support services which help people return to paid employment, voluntary work or training and to stay in work.

Mayor to attend culture and diversity mental health event

Richmond Fellowship will play host to the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea as part of an event to promote cultural diversity and tackle mental health stigma.

Councillor Robert Freeman will be in attendance at the event that will showcase a range of dancers, poetry, and cuisine from around the world.

Running for the mental health charity that saved my life

A Darlington woman is set to take on the Redcar half marathon to raise money and awareness for the charity that helped save her life.

Paula Roberts, 31, is aiming to complete the 13.1 mile run in two hours fifteen minutes in support of Richmond Fellowship, the national charity making mental health recovery reality.

And whilst the money raised will help support people living with mental health problems, Paula is also determined to use her marathon challenge to raise awareness for Richmond Fellowship and help tackle mental health stigma. Read more →
