Award win for mental health services in Birmingham

My Time awardBirmingham based mental health charity My Time has been recognized for their work in supporting people with mental health problems in the Asian community.

My Time, an integrated division of Richmond Fellowship which is part of Recovery Focus, the national group of mental health and substance misuse charities, has received an award for the best voluntary organisation and was recognised as having the best staff serving the local community in Birmingham by the Midland Asian Community Achievement Awards Association.

Amra Dautovic, managing director for My Time, said: “We’re thrilled to have won this award. My Time prides itself on providing culturally sensitive services to Birmingham’s diverse communities.

“We’re proud to be supported by a diverse staff who help build bridges with all elements of our community and help us work toward our goal of inspiring mental health recovery for all.”

In Birmingham, the Asian community makes up 26% of the cities population. However cultural challenges can often lead to mental health problems not being recognised or treated effectively.

The community services provided by My Time help to bridge the gap between communities and ensure everyone receives the level of mental health support they need.

Derek Caren, Recovery Focus group chief executive, said: “We’re delighted by this award and extremely proud of the work our partners to support all communities in tackling mental health stigma and raising awareness of the support that is out there for people experiencing mental health problems.

“This award highlights our recognition within the Asian community of Birmingham and shows the hard work that has been done by our fantastic team to ensure that people of all backgrounds have access to mental health support”
