Richmond Fellowship is Sudbury Charity of the Year

Our Sudbury team in action

Richmond Fellowship, the national mental health charity making recovery reality, has been selected as charity of the year by the newly elected Mayor of Sudbury, Councillor Sarah Page.

Various fundraising events will be taking place in Sudbury, Suffolk over the next 12 months including a curry night, coffee morning and photography competition in partnership with local schools.

Richmond Fellowship in Sudbury will receive a share of the total funds raised along with two other selected charities, the Kernos Centre and the Suffolk Befriending scheme. All the charities chosen provide mental health provision in Sudbury and the surrounding villages.

Speaking in the Suffolk Free Press, Ms Page said:

“I think good mental health provision is absolutely critical. Getting good help is vital because it impacts people in all walks of life”.

Matt Webb, Community Link Worker, said:

“This is absolutely fantastic news. We’ve worked extremely hard over the years to integrate our service into the wider community and be an integral part of the town. We’re thrilled the new Mayor has recognised us as one of her 2017-2018 beneficiaries”.

The news comes following the service’s proactive work to raise awareness during Mental Health Awareness Week. The team set up shop in Sainsbury’s in Sudbury to talk about mental health with the public and help to tackle stigma.

Stephen Smith-Trask, Managing Director of Richmond Fellowship (south), said:

“To have mental health and our organisation recognised in this way is a fantastic achievement.

“Our team in Sudbury do fantastic work in the local community to raise awareness of mental health and tackle stigma. This recognition will serve to support this work and raise vital funds to help make recovery reality for people using our services in the area.”
