Sky dive for mental health awareness

emma-sky-diveAn Isle of Wight Woman will jump 10,000ft to raise money and awareness for mental health services on the island with a charity sky dive.

Emma Gerring, 31, from Cowes is the registered manager of a local care home and is taking on her challenge to support national mental health charity Richmond Fellowship and their services on the island.

Emma said:

“This is my first skydive and I’m very excited. Nervous, but excited.
“I have family members who live with mental health problems and it’s an issue that needs more awareness so that people can get the support they need.”

Richmond Fellowship operates a recovery centre on the Isle of Wight providing community based support and recovery focussed interventions.

Emma’s sister works as an administrator for the service and it was her experiences as well as a family history of mental health that inspired her to take on the challenge.

“I’m aiming to raise £300 and so far everyone has been really generous, but we still need more money to reach that target. I don’t believe mental health services receive adequate funding and this is my way of helping to raise awareness and support.”

Stephen Smith-Trask, managing director for Richmond Fellowship (south) said:

“We’re very grateful to Emma for taking on this challenge and flying the flag for mental health services. Our project on the Isle of Wight is a new initiative, but we’ve already seen great success in supporting people living with mental health problems.
“Raising awareness around mental health is a key priority, and what better way to do that than to sky dive 10,000ft? We’ll all be supporting Emma as she takes on this challenge.”

Emma’s will take on her sky dive on Saturday 17 September in Sailsbury. For more information and to support her fundraising click here.
