TWIGS uses clay in slab work making lots of items including our own unique
design of shadow plates – hang them in the garden or against a wall, let the
sun shine through and see the different words of inspiration appear. Bead
making and slab-work introduces people to the potential of working with clay,
which has been used for thousands of years for creative expression. We use the
beads in many different ways – incorporated into designs for mobiles,
jewellery and textile work such as bags.

Success and a feeling of contributing
to the needs of the craft studio is a great way to build self esteem and
confidence, and there are other ways it can help the process can improve
concentration, help focus and improve dexterity. We have also seen how it can
give people the courage to start an evening class in pottery.

Mosaic
has been used as a therapeutic activity at TWIGS for six years now. Again it is
an excellent medium for concentration and absorption-similar to doing a jigsaw
puzzle. We enjoy making mosaic paving stones for the gardens at TWIGS and have
also completed some as commissions. This year the Craft Studio is developing 3D
mosaics into the range, such as sculpture and unusual flower pods. |

We
are always looking for inspiring mediums and /or people to work with. This is
sometimes an opportunity to spark people to explore a direction outside TWIGS,
but it is also a good opportunity to encourage people to attend a training
/workshop format, and add to their c.v./portfolio.
