The positive benefits from engaging with Nature in an unspoilt environment are now widely recognised. Perhaps the best known programme for promoting the health benefits from conservation activities is the BTCV ‘Green Gym’. We work in partnership with Great Western Community Forest and the Forestry Commission to run a weekly group at Nightingale Woods just to the East of Swindon. Participants help maintain a maturing woodland and learn traditional skills and gain self-esteem by contributing to a valued public resource. Once a month we team up with RFET Marlborough to assist with the maintenance of a WWT nature area, ‘Hatgate reserve’ and work on a 2 km stretch of bridleway called ‘Mud Lane’.
