Arts & Crafts

In the Craft Studio we believe in…

Individuality... recycling... natural... inspiration... organics... balance... harmony... gorgeousness... and acceptance of each other.

These are the words of the people who work in the craft studio.  We are lucky to have some fabulous resources both donated and bought from community funding.  We look for processes that are therapeutic and enjoyable, such as felt making, textiles work, clay, natural dying, mosaic and papermaking.  We then use these skills to create pieces for the site and temporary art projects for our Open Days.

Making bead necklaces in the craft roomWe have also developed a range of products for sale that embrace our values too. This range includes:

  • Hand made greetings cards
  • Textile vases
  • Felt bags, bowls, broaches
  • Mosaic paving stones
  • Original lavender bags
  • Raku and Egyptian paste jewellery
  • Original mobiles
  • Exciting and contemporary bags.

In all our arts and crafts activities at TWIGS we are looking to find processes that are creative, therapeutic, fun and achievable.

Bead making introduces people to working with clay, which has been used for thousands of years for creative expression. A selection of necklaces made within TWIGS

At TWIGS we enjoy working as a group towards a common purpose. We use the beads in many different ways at the project – incorporated into designs for mobiles, jewellery and textile projects such as bags. Feeling part of this is a great way to build self-esteem and confidence, and there are other ways it can help . . .

The process can improve concentration, help to focus and and improve dexterity. It is also an opportunity for people to try out their own designs and ideas and make decisions about what works.
