RF TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

At Richmond Fellowship staff development and ongoing high quality management support is taken very seriously, as demonstrated by the achievement of the Investors in People award (IIP). This page is about what we do and what some of our staff have said about it. The in-house Training and Development Team is dedicated to providing stimulating and informative training courses which meet current and future needs of service delivery and organisational development.

“We have a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in the Fellowship & we share these to improve our services”

From the first day of joining Richmond Fellowship, training and line management support is available to ensure people settle in quickly and begin to find their new job to be both challenging and rewarding.

“I feel my induction started during the recruitment process and simply continued when I joined”

The National Care Standards Commission expects Richmond Fellowship to follow stated standards of care. In order to support the achievement of these standards a range of NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) courses are available which are run and supported by the Training and Development Team.

“The NVQ was brilliant; it really made me think about my practice”

In order to clarify the training strategy and make best use of resources, Richmond Fellowship has developed an approach to identifying training needs against 4 levels. For each job training activities have been noted against each of these levels.

“I am really impressed with the training that RF offers”

Level A - Core Development
The courses in this level equip people to perform their duties and because of this, attendance is mandatory. The 6 month Induction Programme, tailored for each job, is part of this level and includes:

  • An induction day held at the Central Office Diversity and Equal Opportunities
  • Introductions to Mental Health and Housing
  • Service Planning and Risk Management
  • Basic Information Technology
  • Statutory Health and Safety Training.

Level B - Specialist Training including Continuing Professional Development
Here training activities are linked to specific jobs and support functions. Training Pathways have been identified and through Appraisal and regular ongoing Supervision, the development of relevant key and specialist skills is managed. For example:

  • Mental Health Management Seminars
  • Working with Commissioners

Level C - Corporate Development Initiatives
Again these courses and seminars are designed to be job and role specific. Such as:

  • Business Planning and
  • Risk Briefings

Level D - Management Development
Training needs are again identified through Appraisal. A programme of people management courses encourages people to extend their range of skills to support career development.

“Training courses provide a natural environment for discussing and sharing best practice”

“I feel more valued by RF than any other job that I have done”
