The Old Moat and Queens Park Horticultural Community Based Services

Who we are:

The Old Moat and Queens Park Horticultural Services run a well established and successful garden centre in Epsom and a Community Based Outreach Service in East Surrey. Integrated within the local community, we provide retail and horticultural services to the public whilst providing realistic work based opportunities to local people with mental health problems.

What we offer:

The Old Moat offers training in nursery stock growing, propagation, vegetable and fruit production, retailing and administration as well as contract gardening. Opportunities at Queens Park include contract gardening, footpath clearance, park maintenance and conservation work.

How we work:

We tailor our services to meet the needs of the individual. We positively encourage individuals to access a wide variety of roles which include formal and informal training, as a means to develop confidence and skills. Our gardeners meetings encourage Service Users to be actively involved in how we deliver our services empowering people to make decisions and to be valued as part of the team.

What we achieve:

During the last 3 months we have worked with and supported 76 people with mental health problems. There have been 24 new referrals into the Service, with 54 people supported in accessing a variety of roles. 62 people have reported an increase in self esteem and confidence with a significant number of people being referred to our Community Links and Employment Advisors successfully supporting people in achieving paid employment.
