We provide short to medium term accommodation for people who have a need for 24 hour support after being discharged from hospital.
The time someone spends at Stratheden will be an average of 2-3 years but it may be a shorter or slightly longer depending on need.
How we help
We aim to provide therapeutic care for people who have complex, ill-defined care needs. We specialise in working with people who have associated drug and alcohol problems, personality disorders, treatment resistant psychosis and associated forensic histories.
Stratheden is located in Carlisle city centre and within walking distance of the local facilities, which include shops, cinema, leisure centre, churches and cafes. Residents are encouraged and supported to access these facilities as well as maintaining their existing social and care network. There is a handbook which gives details of local facilities; such as Post Office, cinema etc.
Who we can help
We can help people over the age of 18 who are on an enhanced care programme approach and have a severe and enduring mental health need.
Following a referral we will meet with you to carry out a suitability assessment and liaise with your care support team. If it’s agreed that Stratheden is the right place for you then you move in gradually. You can visit on a few occasions; generally joining others for meals and social activities such as cooking groups. Then you’ll be invited to sleep over, in the house, for a night. This will happen, usually, two or three times before being invited to stay over for a weekend depending on needs or your wishes. This helps to achieve a smooth transition from hospital to the residential setting and gives you a chance to get to know our staff.
At the heart of everything we do lies:
- Hope: the belief that recovery is possible for every individual
- Respect: valuing differences and all contributions
- Enabling: giving people encouragement and support to achieve their goals
- Inclusion: the belief that everyone has a right to participate fully in society.
