What is Richmond Fellowship RETAIN? RETAIN supports staff who are experiencing mental health problems including stress, depression or anxiety at work, and supports employees returning to work after a period of absence. Since its launch in 2006, RETAIN has worked with over 500 people, of which 71% have had a positive outcome – have retained their job, been redeployed or changed job. We are part of Richmond Fellowship (RF) one of the biggest voluntary sector providers of mental health care across the country, working with 6,000 people. RF offers a wide range of housing, care and community support services, in addition to its employment services which support people who might otherwise be excluded from the workplace because of mental ill health. RF has over 21 years experience in providing employment support to people with mental health problems. We aim to help people to STAY WELL - STAY WORKING. 1 in 6 people or 7 million adults in the UK suffer from a common mental health problem. Stress has now overtaken back pain as the number one cause of absenteeism in the UK workforce. The cost to employers of mental ill health amongst their staff is estimated at over £25 billion, equivalent to £1,000 per employee in the workforce. Improving the management of mental ill health in the workplace should enable employers to save 30% or more of costs, a total across Britain of £8 billion a year. (Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health, December 2007, CIPD 2008) RETAIN aims to help employers manage mental health well in the workplace to increase productivity and profitability.
